Biography

HarborLouisa Gaylard is a young singer songwriter who has been writing, singing and playing music since she was twelve years old.

From a young age Louisa got taken to gigs around Suffolk and this played a part in her wanting to be involved in music. When Louisa was 9 she started to learn to play classical guitar and she followed this path for a while. At the age of 11 she decided that she wanted to play something a little more contemporary, hence switching to electric guitar. This switch in type of guitar – also helped by the
tastes in music of her brother and Dad  – affected Louisa's musical tastes. She went from kid's pop bands to a new and exciting world of rock. Starting off tamely with such artists as Avril Lavigne and Wheatus then later moving on to Nirvana and The Sex Pistols. By the age of 12 Louisa was totally swallowed up in to the world of rock.

Louisa then took her basic knowlege of guitar chords and words taken from childhood poetry to form simple songs, with the melody being the easiest part and the lyrics being the hardest. Louisa felt like all the songs she was hearing were driven by negative emotions but nothing really bad had ever happened to her, so she made her songs about other people or about made-up situations. Louisa's musical world was still widening as she started to listen to soft rock like Coldplay and Doves which had an element of acoustic music in it. Artists like Jack Johnson, Halesworth 08 Nick Drake and KT Tunstall gave Louisa an inspiration for lyric writing and by the age of 14 she felt finally ready to start gigging. Her first performance was for her brother's suprise party, after this she started to go to regular open mics and jam nights, and get the occasional gig. One of the many organizers of the nights that she met was called George Fothergill (former drum teacher of Louisa's brother). George was part of a thing called Amplifier which is a music workshop, Louisa joined when she was 14 and Amplifier played a massive part in helping her get gigs and to record her debut EP called Hip
py Hill.

Around this same time Louisa started putting on her own shows. She organized two in 2007 and 5 in 2008. When Louisa was 15 she was given her first electro-acoustic guitar and, with the help of her friends, later named it Barney. Louisa also started getting singing lessons with local singer Debs Warren. Debs taught Louisa to treat the voice like an instrument and to use it with confidence.
From knowing Debs, Louisa also got to know her partner, Richard, who was the sound engineer of the album Point?, released in 2007.

Louisa went on to stydy music at the Acamdemy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Her music has been featured on several community radio stations and the BBC local stations in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Gloucestershire. She currently lives in Tewkesbury.  In 2009 she released the album New Day. To hear her recent songs and get news of new recordings and gigs, try her MySpace page www.myspace.com/louisagaylard
